Getting to Denmark is easy. Denmark is a peninsular in Northern Europe, which means you can go by car or train from any of the North European countries. Århus is close to the E45 motorway.
There are flights from several destinations throughout the world to three different airports in Denmark. If you arrive in Copenhagen Airport – the largest in Scandinavia – you can either choose to fly on to Billund Airport, Århus Airport, or Karup Airport, or you can travel by train or rent a car. From both Billund and Århus Airport there are airport busses to Århus.
Århus Airport
Situated less than a 40-minute drive north east of Århus, Århus Airport has 8 to 12 daily flights to and from Copenhagen Airport – Northern Europe’s key air traffic junction. The air service is primarily operated by SAS and takes 35 minutes. In addition to this, BA / SUN AIR have flights to and from Stockholm, Oslo and Gothenburg, and Ryan Air operates an air service to and from London. Århus Airport also offers a taxi-plane service.
Billund Airport
Billund Airport is West Denmark’s International Airport, handling more than 2.5 million passengers in 2008. A wide range of scheduled airlines, including KLM, Lufthansa, British Airways, Cimber Sterling and Ryanair are serving more than 30 European routes.
Billund Airport has direct services to international hub airports such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Copenhagen and Brussels ensuring quick and easy one-stop connections to more than 500 destinations worldwide. Furthermore, the airport has twice daily operations to most European business centers.
From Billund Airport you can drive by car to Aarhus in less than 1 hour. Furthermore, the airport operates a coach shuttle service to the city center of Aarhus, which fits very well to most flight arrivals and departures. The shuttle service operates up to 13 times a day.
On occasion West Denmark hosts large international events. Up to such events, the airport assists the event hosts in providing appropriate welcome service to their guests at the airport. The host will be able to meet their guests at the aircraft door, and the airport will facilitate a well positioned ‘welcome center’ to the hosts.
Copenhagen Airport
With 65 airlines operating from Copenhagen Airport, and with more than 20 mil passengers every year, Copenhagen Airport is Scandinavia’s biggest.
Transport to and from Århus Airport & Billund Airport
From Billund Airport and Århus Airport there are public airport bus services for the on-going transfer of passengers to Århus. There are 13 daily bus departures from Billund Airport, and 16 from Århus Airport. Price one-way in 2009: Århus Airport to Århus: EUR 12, Billund Airport to Århus: EUR 24.
Train Services
Denmark has an efficient train network with a direct service to the centre of Århus from Copenhagen Airport. Travel time is 3.0 – 3.5 hours between Århus and Copenhagen Airport. There are train 1-2 departures every hour.
Roads
As in all parts of Denmark, Århus has an efficient road network which allows for easy driving access directly to the city – Hamburg is only a 3-hour drive
